YOLO: You Only Live Once! New SUPs at Staff Party

Powers Outdoors and Powers Outdoors Adventures recently had our end of the summer Staff Party out on Brooks Lake. One of the highlights of the day was the new YOLO Yak SUP. As some of you know SUP stands for Stand Up Paddleboard. Well, keeping in form, YOLO stands for You Only Live Once. This company has a great mantra and some great boards. Another SUP company that the Staff had fun with was Doyle. Doyle boards are great all-around epoxy SUPs. The Yolo Yak and Doyle SUPs are available for sale NOW at any Powers Outdoors locations and you can click HERE to get there!

Thanks to the P.O. and POA Staff for a great summer! Also, thanks to Yolo for acknowledging P.O. as the newest dealer. Click HERE to read more.

More to come,

SUP on the Pine River!

As you all know, this past weekend in Michigan was just a tad bit soggy. Plenty of rain passed through the area, causing some serious flooding in some areas. Don't worry, that didn't stop us from paddling! The Powers PaddleCru hit the Pine River for some SUP action.

SUP, or Stand Up Paddleboarding, is just starting to hit in the Midwest and Michigan. Powers Outdoors and Powers Outdoors Adventures is already out in the field testing out various SUPs and the best flatwater, rivers and just about any interesting place that you can think of to paddle. As you will see from these pictures, even a partially flooded Pine River couldn't hold us back.

Stay tuned for some upcoming paddle trips that will feature SUPs as well as classes and demos to get you up to speed on all that this new paddle discipline has to offer. Also, be sure to stop in to Powers Outdoors and check out the new Yolo Yak SUPs that are hitting the floors next week.

Paddle On,

Wine Paddle Almost Full! Labor Day Weekend...Book Today!

Do you like to paddle? Do you like wine? Well then...do we have just the Adventure for you!

Overview: This Adventure is an all experience level day paddle trip that combines flatwater paddling and wine tasting.

Date: Saturday, September 5th, 2009. (arrive at Noon)

Trip Details: Paddle one of the most beautiful chains of lakes that Michigan has to offer. This is a very leisurely paddle, so the trip is open to ALL experience levels, and it is open to kayaks or canoes. We will put in at the Pickeral Lake public access. We will then paddle through the tunnel, over to Emerald Lake, and on to an island in the middle of Sylvan Lake. It will take us approximately 1 hour to reach the Island. Once there, a snack will be provided as will a white wine sampling. This all takes place in ankle to knee deep water, so it will be unlike any wine tasting you have done before! After we have a brief discussion about the wines, we will return to our boats. We will then paddle back to Pickeral Lake, load up the boats, and head back to our base camp. Once we return, we will reveal the white wines that you sampled, explain the region it is from, give you pairings, and price/bottle. Bottles will not be available for sale, but we will give you all of the info needed to purchase. We will then proceed with a red wine tasting. Cheeses and food pairings will be served at the red wine tasting portion. After we finish the red wine tasting portion, this concludes the day trip.

Quick Facts:
- This trip will allow you to paddle some beautiful flatwater
- You will learn about several different kinds of wine
- Total paddle time is approximately 2.5 hours.
- You need to be 21 years old to partake in the Wine Tasting, but not to attend the Adventure.

Trip Costs: Cost is $75 per person for the day paddle.
(Please note that any under the age of 21 years old is welcome on this trip, but they will not be able to participate in the tasting. The price for anyone under 21 is only $50.00. )

Boat Rental: (kayak or canoe) is also available for an additional cost of $25.00.

Trip Directions: For those only doing the day paddle, we will meet at the Newaygo Powers Outdoors Store (27 State Street, Newaygo, MI 49337) between Noon and 12:15pm. You will then follow us out to the base camp for the day. We will park there and provide transportation down to the water. We will be on the lake around 1:00pm. We should be back to base camp around 4:00pm, and wrapping up the presentation around 5:00pm.
